Junior Karting Lessons

New for the summer holidays we will be running junior karting lessons for drivers 8 to 13 years.

Each lesson will cost £49 and will cover different aspects of karting, including:

  • Safety and track conduct
  • Cornering and correct lines
  • Braking and acceleration
  • Race craft
  • Your first race

The classes will run every Tuesday morning starting on the 30th July.

All junior drivers under 12 years of age must first have completed an induction with ourselves before participating in a lesson.

Junior Karting Lessons Programme

The idea of the Junior Karting Lessons (JKL) is to allow novice kart drivers, aged 8 to 13 years*, the opportunity to learn all aspects of hire kart driving and build their confidence ready for their first race event.

Whilst the course is aimed at novices, experienced drivers who wish to improve on their skills are also welcome.

There will be 5 lessons across the summer period, all taking part on a Tuesday morning with a 10.00am arrival. Lessons will last approximately 1 hour from 10.30am – 11.30am. Each lesson will be limited to 8 drivers, however should demand call for it, extra lessons may be added.

30th July – Lesson One – Safety and track conduct.

Lesson one will look at the safety aspect of karting covering the below areas

  • NKA safety video – this is required by the National Karting Association (NKA) to be shown at all sessions.
  • Correct race wear and how it should be worn
  • Basic driving techniques
  • Correct seating position within the kart
  • Flags and light signals
  • Leaving and Entering the pit lane/Pit lane safety
  • What to do if you spin/crash!
  • Track Limits & Track walk
  • Q&A

The session will conclude with a 10 minute practical session of the 850 circuit to put in to practice what has been learnt.

6th August – Lesson Two – Braking and Acceleration.

Lesson two will look at control of the pedals covering the below areas

  • NKA safety video – this is required by the National Karting Association (NKA) to be shown at all sessions.
  • What they do and how they work
  • Braking and acceleration at different speeds
  • Braking & Acceleration dependant on track shape
  • Braking and Acceleration in the wet
  • On track examples
  • Q&A

The session will conclude with a 10 minute session of the 850 circuit to put in to practice what has been learnt

13th August – Lesson Three – Cornering and correct lines.

Lesson two will look at corners and the correct way to take them, covering the below areas

  • NKA safety video – this is required by the National Karting Association (NKA) to be shown at all sessions.
  • The reason behind racing lines
  • The importance of looking ahead
  • Talk through of the 850 circuit
  • Track walk
  • 10min session with cones and instructor
  • Q&A

The session will conclude with a 10 minute session of the 850 circuit to put in to practice what has been learnt

20th August – Lesson Four – Racecraft & Overtaking.

Lesson four will look at racecraft and how to overtake safely, covering the below areas

  • NKA safety video – this is required by the National Karting Association (NKA) to be shown at all sessions.
  • What is race craft?
  • How to overtake

The session will conclude with a 15 minute session of the 850 circuit to put in to practice what has been learnt

27th August – Lesson Five – Your First Race.

Lesson five will look at taking part in your first race, covering the below areas

  • NKA safety video – this is required by the National Karting Association (NKA) to be shown at all sessions.
  • Race day formats
  • Qualifying – what to do and not do
  • Gridding up
  • The Race

This session will conclude with a mini race session on the 850 circuit to put in to practice what has been learnt. A five minute qualifying will be followed by a ten minute race.
