A fantastic achievement
for the North East achieving 2nd place from over 500 teams
nationally, and its only the second year the North has
been represented.
Royal Grammar School from Newcastle entered
a team of three drivers beating over 35 local teams to get
to London, and only just missing out of the accolade of national
champions.
This UK wide initiative was launched to
stimulate interest in Motorsport following Lewis Hamiltons
arrival on the F1 scene. Last years entries were just
over 250 teams, 12 months later has seen entries double to
500.
Kart Circuits throughout the UK held
regional race events open to 12 to 18 year olds with the winning
teams being invited down to Daytona raceway near London for
the national final. 34 teams attended the final with many
already experienced drivers. Three teams made it to the final,
Royal Grammar School from Newcastle, Hartlepool College and
Seaham School near Sunderland.
