Junior Tkm is coming....New Entry Level Class for 2008
Up until now the only class for 11 to 16 year old karters has been Junior Max. While this class is popular it is both expensive, complicated for beginners and, for some, too quick as a first kart.
Karting North East ( KNE ) have taken the decision to launch a new class for 2008 which will offer fixed cost racing for the year. It will be based on a well tried and tested Tkm engine which has been used in karting for at least 20 years. The engines will be restricted in power by KNE but with two weight bands allowing heavier drivers to compete on equal terms with lighter drivers. While it is anticipated that the engines will run for the season without being touched the engines can be easily rebuilt and maintained by any-one to keep costs to a minimum. As the engines have been in use for many years there are many pre owned engines available to keep start up costs low **
The KNE Championship 2008 for Junior Tkm will be based on a maximum of two sets of slick tyres for the entire Championship. Fuel can only be sourced from the local garage ( Evans Halshaw ) with only one two stroke oil to be used. Every driver will be weighed to decide which total weight will be used with the appropriate KNE restrictor in the engine. All engines must have a clutch fitted for reasons of safety. The Championship will be 9 rounds i.e March to November with 2 dropped rounds to count. First prize will be a voucher for £ 1,000.00 for “the Kart Shop at Warden Law”.
Competitive karts should be available between £ 1,000 – 2,500.00.
